America, America: A Political Satire

I received an email today advertising a "pro-American art rally" sponsored by Move America Forward in response to an art display at the office of California Attorney General Bill Lockyer. The art in question is a rudimentary canvas painting depicting a stars-n-stripes American continent being flushed down a toilet with the phrase "T'anks to Mr. Bush!"

Here is the website of the artist in question, Stephen Pearcy.

I'm surprised that this has made modest waves nationally. When it comes to the debasement of the American flag, burning it is an act of mercy compared to the pandering routinely done by politicians of all stripes.

To wit, none of this hoopla matches the macabre display put on by the U.S. House of Representatives as it deliberated the Flag Burning Exception to the First Amendment. The nadir of that sorry episode: Congressman Duke "The Deal" Cunningham channeling every victim of 9/11 in support of the constitutional monstrosity.
