Phys-Ed Followup
A few posts ago in writing about how government encourages obesity, I drew the most comments by suggesting that America's children are becoming heavier because physical education requirements are being cut in cash-strapped school districts. I just found another possible reason.
Access to optional recreational opportunities seems to be dwindling in school districts that are getting sued for playground accidents. So see-saws, swingsets and sandboxes are on the wane.
Anyone else remember playing on gravel at recess? I had to get two stitches above my eye once because I misjudged the distance between the random metal climbing thingy (no doubt covered in lead paint) and the ground. Oh, and I used to have to walk. 5 miles. To school. In the rain.
