Freedom is on the Walk

Judging by current events in Iraq it certainly doesn’t look like freedom is on the march. Fortunately, for those who have forgotten that Al Qaeda crashed planes into the World Trade Center because “they hate our freedom”, the U.S. Defense Department is using your tax dollars to host a Freedom Walk this September 11th in Washington, DC. It will end with a free concert featuring country music star Clint Black. According to the military’s press people, the walk will “honor the victims of 9/11 and America's military personnel, as well as to celebrate freedom.” While I certainly would like to honor all the victims of America’s military personnel, something tells me that’s not exactly what they mean.

To The People’s very own Davey Allday, who was too lazy to blog about this event himself, notes that our freedom is so on the march that you have to REGISTER to join the walk, and of course:

For visitor safety, the following items are prohibited during the walk, and at the concert viewing area: real or simulated weapons/ammunition, animals, Mace/pepper spray, alcoholic beverages, coolers, glass bottles, fireworks/firecrackers, and laser lights/laser pointers. Baby strollers are allowed for the walk. Backpacks, duffels and bags are allowed but will be subject to screening.
"Check-in" for the Freedom March begins at 7am. The first 1,000 people to be screened for admittance get the official America Supports You campaign lapel pin. America, Fuck Yeah!

Also, thanks to Wonkette.
