H.O.V. R.I.P.
For way too long, environmentalists have been allowed to place their personal preference for carpooling over the needs of everyday Americans and the environment. Now, Washington State has taken the bold step of opening up one of its H.O.V. lanes to all cars. The change is expected to reduce traffic congestion, which contributes to air pollution and wastes gas. Unfortunately, other areas of Washington State, as well as 18 other states, will continue to discriminate against people based solely on the number of people in their cars. But, on this one stretch of highway, at least, the "lonely need not apply" sign will be taken down.
