More Money Gets Colorful

One of my pet peeves is the dismal design and morbid color of American paper currency. American currency has never been anything resembling attractive, and the commitment to artistic mediocrity continues: the much ballyhooed Sacajawea dollar coin tarnishes very easily.

Today, the government unveiled a new ten dollar bill with enhanced security features. Here is the official line.

The upside of all of these security measures is that they utilize color and imaging, making the bill a little more attractive. The U.S. still has long way to go before it reaches the modest visual splendor of British currency. But all fiat money is only worth the paper it's printed on, right?

Now if only all of the dead presidents would be taken off U.S. currency and be replaced with images of allegorical Liberty...
