The Perfect Tour
Several years ago members of Congress decided that what Americans really need is a 580,000 square-foot underground visitors center to educate them on what Congress does. And what an education we're getting. Congressional leaders ceremonially broke ground at the site in the summer of 2000. Actual construction did not begin until the fall of 2001. Four years later the project's completion is still nowhere in sight. It may or may not be finished in our lifetime. The project, which was supposed to cost taxpayers $265 million at most to build, is now expected to cost $559 million at minimum. Educated yet?
