Random Sports Thoughts

Fox Sports' lead baseball play-by-play announcer Joe Buck could not suck more unless he was his colleague Tim McCarver. I saw the moronic McCarver interview the wretched Isiah Thomas on the former's insipid show and had to keep pouring water on myself to keep from spontaneously combusting.

Speaking of Fox baseball, think they'll reconsider their inane practice of handing out their MVP-of-the-game award before the game is over? If it was just a bad idea before, it's so much more obviously dumb after the Houston Astros' Lance Berkman won the award on Monday night with several outs still to go in the 9th; almost immediately, St. Louis Cardinals' slugger hit about the hardest ball I've ever seen: a 3-run homer to win the game.

I love Tedy Bruschi and you should, too. Best wishes at practice today and for the rest of the season, Tedy.

I love John Riggins. Yeah, that John Riggins. He's been a frequent guest on Tony Kornheiser's radio show and I'll be damned if he isn't one of the more thoughtful -- and libertarian -- former athletes I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Yesterday he spoke eloquently of the Minnesota Vikings' players' right to take part in a sex cruise -- as long as everyone (male or female) was a willing participant.

LaVar may be right. (Gibbs may be crazy.) Pimply Freddie, however, has no case.

I love Bill Simmons (aka Sports Guy), but this fan/critic makes some good points.

I've tuned in to the OLN (a network I now receive) hockey broadcast twice. Each time I've seen the same serious, extended glitch. Last night during the re-broadcast of the Bruins/Canadiens game, the audio and video during the first-period intermission were completely out of sync. Which made it look much like the dubbed Iron Chef, which I'd just been watching. That's not good. Get it right, OLN. (Not that I really care.)
