Kids' vote selects favorite cerealWow! There's a school I wish I'd gone to. A HUGE hand to Groedel and the school for actually making learning fun and relevant to kids and for raising a middle finger (intended or not) in the general direction of the food police.
Their voice may not mean much in the cereal aisle of the grocery store, but second-graders at Jackson Park Elementary School got to use their voting clout in an election for their favorite cereal.
Students spent two weeks learning about voting and elections in the process.
The two-week campaign for the best sugary cereal involved pep rallies, speeches and posters.
Cookie Crisp collected 45 out of the 94 votes, beating out the likes of Frankenberry, Boo Berry, Count Chocula, Captain Crunch Berry and Lucky Charms.
Karly Groedel, a first-year teacher and graduate of Ohio University, was pleased with the results.
"Actually, Cookie Crisp is healthy," Groedel said. "Yes, (the box) says it has 12 vitamins in there."
