Blue Nun and the 'Packie Run'

If you want to buy wine in Massachusetts you have few options but to do so in a "package store". (The term packie run refers to the process of going to buy alcoholic beverages in the state.)

Christ only knows why since 1934 none of the Commonwealth's gas stations or convenience stores and few of its grocery stores have been permitted to carry Jesus juice on their shelves. (But then it occurs to me the state's grocers are lucky just to be allowed to open.)

A movement (endorsed today by the Boston Herald) is taking shape to strike down the '34 restriction on wine sales, though the switch would only lift the prohibition on grocers and would still restrict their right to sell beer.
