There Must be Hundreds of Millions of Americans Dying from Heart Attacks Every Year
Over at Hit & Run, Jacob Sullum has a great post on how anti-smoking fascist Michael Siegal is worried that other anti-smoking fascists are destroying their credibility by lying about the dangers associated with second-hand smoke. In this case, they're saying that sitting next to a smoker for just 30 minutes can raise a nonsmoker's risk of suffering a fatal heart attack to that of a smoker. This, of course, is self-evidently false. If true, it would mean that smoking just a couple cigarettes in your life gives you the same chance of suffering a fatal heart attack as someone who smoked two packs a day for 20 years. I've smoked about 50 cigarettes in my life. I guess I should go ahead and start smoking two packs a day since I'm going to die from a heart attack anyway.
