The New (Gay) Voice of Metro

The DC area Metro, which is the second largest public transportation system in the US, recently held a contest to pick a new voice for its "doors closing" and "doors opening" messages that are blared about a million times a day on its several lines. They hadn't done this in ten years and the contest was big local news that people were talking about. The winner, out of 1,259 contestants, was one Randi Miller, of Woodbridge, VA, pictured.
The Washington Post covered this selection process in great detail , yet somehow avoided mentioning that Randi Miller is gay, despite the fact that she is obviously gay (she is wearing a tie in their own photo) and is totally out. The Post reported that Miller,
...planned a celebration dinner last night with friends at a restaurant. The gay Washington Blade wrote,
Miller celebrated at Freddie’s Beach Bar in Arlington for karaoke when she won the contest."[I sang an] incredibly sped-up version of Carolina on My Mind," Miller says. "I don’t know why it was so fast, but it was the fastest rendition I’d ever done. But I kept up."Freddie's is a gay bar in Alexandria. Why did the Post straightwash a great gay success story? Btw, having met her, Randi Miller can kick Harvey Mansfield's tweedy Harvard butt, any day, any time, in terms of manliness.
My other favorite tidbit is about her voice, described by the Post's Marc Fisher as being, "smoky, alto," is that she does indeed smoke cigarettes, as I did witness. I guess the Post didn't want to say that a hot butch lesbian smoker is the new Voice of Metro. Well, she is.
