Sabado Gigante!
From my friend's 5-year-old daughter's birthday party to the first-ever (sort of, I think) U.S. show by the very good and hyper-energetic Brit three-piece The Subways at the 9:30 Club to my laptop...
Here's my mini-review of the show: Think Nirvana fronted by a hyper, bouncy version of the dude from The Vines, a 19-year-old Juliana Hatfield -- but with talent and methamphetaminic energy -- on bass, and a younger Dave Grohl on drums. The lead singer actually climbed up the amps and leapt to the balcony, which he then ran furiously around, slapping punters' hands. Twice. Good stuff.
And now, thanks to the early 9:30 Club show (ended at 8:30) and some over-caffeinated, evasive driving, I'm home for boxing on Showtime. I see no reason not to go with TtP commenter Josh, who is sticking by his prediction of Jeff Lacy by KO over Joe Calzaghe.
Time for popcorn.
Update: I burnt the popcorn a bit. Oh, and Calzaghe just devastated Lacy in a 12-round decision. I don't think there was any exchange during the fight that I could look back at and say, "Oh, Lacy won that one." It's worth noting that after the fight each fighter's comments about the other showed them to be total class acts.
