A Natty Day
Having your own business can be stressful, but it wasn't today as I "left the office early," hopped on my Vespa and tooled down to RFK to catch the Nats/Mets game. The weather was gorgeous. Unforunately, besides the weather, the only ones who showed up were the fans and the Mets. The game started out on a dark note when the Mets scored four runs, three of them homers, in the first inning. The Nats pitching was not so good today. In some ways, the situation of the Nats in DC reminds me of capitalism in France: half-measures don't give the happy results necessary to build support and success. The French have protests over the CP, and we have protests over the fact that we can't see Nats games on tv and the Nats still don't have an owner. There is no way our team will rock unless we enable them to and quit with the half-measures. In addition, the Nats stole a page from Dan Snyder's Redskins playbook and charged me $8 for two waters but still can't field a decent hot dog. Marc Fisher, you are right about the food.
For the policy wonks in you, it was a decent day at the ballpark. Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA) sat near me (that is me in the pic with him on the left) and my favorite liberal talking head, Mark Shields, came over and hugged him. They are both taller than you would think and Tom's hair is just as mussy as you would think.
A final note: Marine One swooped down so dramatically (twice) during the 7th inning stretch that I thought it was a terrorist attack. I guess W likes to see all of us idiots wearing 'W' hats. George, the W does not stand for Walker.
