Pseudo Smurf Alert

Just when you thought the Drug War couldn't get any more absurd, there is a new term, as decribed in an article in the Washington Post today, pseudo smurfing:
The phenomenon of drug dealers crossing state lines to buy pseudoephedrine -- sometimes known as "pseudo smurfing" -- has been increasingly common since Oklahoma passed the first statewide control on the drug in 2004.
The Post continues the trend of press hysteria over meth. This article reaches a new low of purporting that students are taking their Spring Breaks in jurisdictions that don't restrict purchases of Sudafed. Its headline is "A Spring Break Road Trip to the Drugstore." And even more to panic about and fear, as Jerry Tooley, a narcotics detective in Anne Arundel County, MD, notes:
Anne Arundel -- which had three meth labs seized in six months last year -- should be particularly concerned that it has become a destination for drug dealers looking for pseudoephedrine.

These folks are traveling to places like Maryland to buy the pills, but soon they're going to decide to just stay and set up shop there," he said. "I mean, it's probably already happened.
