The Tipping Point

The viewership of Fox's hit show "24" has climbed to an average of 14 million viewers an episode, and actor Kiefer Sutherland just signed a $30 million contract to extend the show three more years. Americans cannot get enough of the show, which features government officials - from the President on down - who are incompetent and/or treasonous. Americans love it. What they don't love is a real-life incompetent President who is jeopardizing national security with ill-conceived foreign policies, which is why support for President Bush has plummented to 38%. His support has steadily fallen at the same time support for "24" has risen. At some point soon, more Americans could prefer an incompetent and corrupt President on "24" than our real-life President. When this happens - I call it the Jack Bauer Tipping Point - censure and impeachment become possible.
