What Now in Iraq?

The NY Times today had a great editorial about Iraq. The first graph was spot on:
Iraq is becoming a country that America should be ashamed to support, let alone occupy. The nation as a whole is sliding closer to open civil war. In its capital, thugs kidnap and torture innocent civilians with impunity, then murder them for their religious beliefs. The rights of women are evaporating. The head of the government is the ally of a radical anti-American cleric who leads a powerful private militia that is behind much of the sectarian terror.
I am no genius but always thought that invading Iraq would be an expensive and counter-productive folly. What do the geniuses at the Washington Post editorial board, who endorsed this war whole-heartedly, say now? Jack. But they are the same idiots who came out against gay marriage. I think they would have been smarter to argue that gays should be able to marry and that invading Iraq is a fool's mission with nightmare consequences.

My question to Iraq war supporters is thus: would you sacrifice your own son or daughter to defend a Sharia state?
