¡Que Barbaro!

I'm puzzled by the media's severe overplaying of Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro's multiple leg fractures during Saturday's Preakness, as if this horse (or horses in general) deserve any particular human empathy. That's not to say I took any satisfaction from seeing Barbaro sustain a gruesome injury -- just as I wouldn't derive any pleasure from seeing any horse or animal injured. (Though some people do.)

But this is after all a horse we're talking about here, not a person. And let's not forget that.
