Say No to Putting Troops on the Border
George Bush may be the only president in U.S. history to always end up doing the exact opposite of what he started out to do. Keeping Medicare solvent turned into adding hundreds of billions of dollars in unfunded liabilities to it. Eliminating terrorism in Iraq turned into giving terrorists a safe-haven in Iraq. Making Social Security more consumer-friendly turned into increasing taxes and cutting benefits. Now, making the U.S. a more immigrant-friendly nation has turned into militarizing the U.S. border. This may end up being his worse action as president. Yes, worse than Iraq, domestic spying, and the PATRIOT Act. For all those “small government” folks out there who support putting soldiers on our borders, let me just point out that soldiers (and barbwire fences and moats) can just as easily be used to keep people in as they can be used to keep people out. With tens of thousands of laws, harsh campaign finance laws, and an increasingly fascist National Security state any one of us could end up becoming political prisoners under a Hillary Clinton or John McCain Presidency. Do you want to be shot trying to climb a barbwire fence on our southern border? No? Then oppose putting troops on the border.
