Here's Hoping Some Bad Senators Fall Down Some Steep Stairs

America may soon have to grapple with Congress passing the first Constitutional Amendment designed to limit the scope of the Bill of Rights.

The upcoming vote on a proposed constitutional amendment that could lead to a ban on flag desecration is likely to produce some strange alliances as supporters work to get the “supermajority” they need to win passage.

Sen. Orrin G. Hatch, R-Utah, the sponsor of the flag resolution (S J Res 12), says at least 66 senators will support the measure in a vote expected before the July Fourth recess.

[...]

Sixty-seven senators would be needed to pass the amendment if all of them were present and voting.

The prospective vote is so close that both sides have to worry about the prospect of absentees.

For example, it’s not clear whether West Virginia Democrat John D. Rockefeller IV, who supports it, will be on hand for the vote. He has been recuperating from back surgery.

The House voted 286-130 last year to adopt an identical resolution (H J Res 10).
I'm sure amendments to limit the 2nd and 4th Amendments will be next.
