Privatize the Police

West Hollywood, California contracts with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to police its area. Because the city has the power to contract out police services - and hire and fire police agencies - the city council can tell the police what to do. Or what not to do, such as to stop wasting resources arresting marijuana smokers. This is awesome. Also awesome is the fact that the city council can fire the police agency if they feel the agency is not doing enough to reduce police brutality and corruption. This is a lot different from most towns - including Washington, DC - where the police have a permanent monopoly and face no incentives to police their own.
