Remember When Old Glory Stood for Freedom?

Well, not any more. It's now a graven image for worshipers of the omnipotent state.

The American flag will be the subject of debate Tuesday on both sides of the Capitol, as the House and Senate consider measures related to its treatment and display.

The Senate will continue a debate that began Monday on a proposed constitutional amendment that would empower Congress to ban flag desecration. A vote could come as early as Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the House is scheduled to consider and vote on legislation by Roscoe G. Bartlett, R-Md., that would forbid condominium associations, cooperative associations and residential real estate management associations from having policies against the display of the U.S. flag by homeowners.

The House on Tuesday will debate Bartlett’s bill under suspension of the rules, which provides for limited debate, bans amendments and requires a two-thirds threshold for passage. It is expected to pass the measure.

Bartlett introduced his bill after a constituent told him that some associations prevent homeowners from displaying the flag.

“I was alarmed to learn that some homeowners associations and condos prevent Americans from flying the American flag at their home,” Bartlett said in a statement last year. “That’s why I’ve introduced HR 42 to guarantee Americans the freedom to fly the American flag in front of their homes.”

So much for a limited federal government. What's next? A federal law requiring every American to fly the American flag outside their home? A constitutional amendment requiring every condo association to provide their tenants with a free flag? Republicans should move to Massachusetts and marry the flag already. They've been fucking it for years.
