The Best $40 I Ever Spent

In response to a spate of senseless murders, DC has enacted a crime emergency. Mostly, what that means is that the MPD is setting up driver checkpoints across the city and harassing innocent people. I recently got caught in one. The MPD were making everyone get out of their cars and shining their flashlights around the backseat, etc, but when I pulled up a cop took one look at my FOP sticker, smiled at me, wished me a good night and waved me on.

So why did I stoop to donate to the FOP? To get the sticker and be protected from MPD harassment. I did this after my 83 year-old father had a fender-bender in NW and the cop who showed up had booze on his breath and started screaming four-letter words at my compliant elderly father and then shoved him. I had to pull him off of my father. I also have a female friend who was parked illegally in front of a CVS and was told to get out of her car. The MPD officer then threw her up against her car, handcuffed her and threw her into jail for the night for DWI, even though she blew 0.00 on the breathalyzer.

Today the very active fundraising arm of the FOP called me to renew, promising a new sticker to show that I am current. They know exactly what they are selling and are shameless about it. And I bought it again, reluctantly, knowing that the sticker protects me from the excesses of the MPD.
