In Britain, an Outsaucing Furor

With HP Sauce, "the undisputed number one brown sauce," emigrating from Britain to Holland, an HP competitor is seeking to steal its trademark image.

Premier Foods, which makes Branston's brown sauce, is "taking advice from lawyers" over Heinz's use of the Houses of Parliament image on its HP Sauce bottles after Heinz announced it was moving production from Birmingham to Holland from next year.

Sue Knight, general manager for Branston at Premier Foods, said: "A lot of people are urging us to put the Houses of Parliament design on our bottles. It's something we would consider now that HP seems to stand for Holland Produced rather than Houses of Parliament."
