Abortion Predators Menace the Nation

Beware parents, because even if your state has abortion consent laws for teens, abortion predators might steal your teen into another state that allows abortion on demand. This is an excerpt from the email sent to supporters today from Tony Perkins, of the Family Research Council.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and your Senators need to hear from you today. The fate of the most important pro-life and pro-family bill of this Congress may depend on it.

The Child Custody Protect Act (CCPA) would make it a federal offense to transport a minor across state lines for an abortion if this action circumvents the application of a state law requiring parental involvement in a minor's abortion. The version the House passed yesterday includes a provision that would require abortion providers to notify parents of a minor seeking an abortion.

Abortion clinics on state borders often advertise in the yellow pages of phone books in states with parental consent laws in order to attract minors across state lines. These clinics intentionally market to minors to circumvent state laws.

We know that abortion clinics are advertising in the yellow pages like used car dealers to snare young prey.

But the three things that trouble me most about this are:
- The Republican abandonment of Federalist principles;
- The way in which the Republican party has become the Evangelical Christian house organ; and
- The fact that the Republican Congress, with a majority and the White House can't seem to get anything done that is meaningful and instead focuses on divisive bullshit.

Old-school conservatives are rebelling. This series in Washington Monthly is delicious and has to be read. Plus there is the great HBO documentary on Goldwater, who wouldn't be allowed into the party today as he was libertarian and is likey rolling in his grave at the thought that someone like Rick Santorum is calling himself a Republican.
