Crocodile Tears for Rick Santorum

A post on Hit & Run of the pic to the left caused a lot of comments because Julian Sanchez poked some fun at Santorum's crying daughter. My comment was that it was strange that a girl her age was carrying a doll and even stranger that the doll has a matching dress. Did stay-at-home "It Takes a Family" Mom sew both of them, and the daughter's hair thingie too? To all of the working moms whom Santorum slung arrows at in that book, take heart, you are doing something way more productive to society than sewing matching doll dresses and hair thingies for your daughter.

But my point is thus: Santorum did not intend to win this election. He wanted all along to exit the Senate and become a high-paid lobbyist. I have a close source who is part of the Santorum family who told me two years ago that Rick doesn't plan to win and carps endlessly at family gatherings about how he needs to make more money and that Senators are underpaid and he has so many children to support. Some gin-soaked relatives in the TtP tradition told him to discover birth control, but he just blanched at that, though I will bet a plaid hair thingie that he will not blanche at becoming John Breaux II.

Santorum did everything he could do to lose this election, such as praising Bush right before the election in a suicidal way while also raising as much $$ as he could, which he can keep. But, thankfully, the guy is much less valuable since the Dems' thumpin'.
