San Francisco Liberals Don't Know They're Idiots

Sigh. I'm happy that San Francisco Supervisors have essentially decriminalized marijuana, making its use and sale the lowest law enforcement priority. But at the same time they moved to keep the police from wasting resources on marijuana, they forced the police to waste resources on something that clearly should be the ultimate in lowest law enforcement priorities: stopping restaurants from giving their customers plastic foam to-go containers. Not only is this a waste of public resources, it stems from the same moralistic 'we know better than you' ideology that drives the war on marijuana. And no, the fact that some people throw plastic containers on the ground isn't a reason to ban them. Some people who smoke marijuana drive or otherwise endanger public safety. The fact that some people abuse their freedom doesn't give policymakers the right to take the freedom away from people who use it responsibly. It's also notable that supervisors in this supposedly "liberal" city enacted legislation designed to crack down on brothels. You know, because arresting people for selling hand jobs is a good use of police resources. I await the creation of a special San Francisco police taskforce with the power to raid restaurants that use "too- small" font on their menus. And the law making it illegal to give people plastic forks. And take-out menus not made with recycled paper. And anything else Bay Area leftists morally oppose. In the mean time I will stand athwart history yelling, "my to-go container, my choice!". And yeah, I'm hopped up on pseudophedrine cold medicine and feisty today.

More on all this here.
