British Nannys: Up is Down, Black is White

Is it me or should the Brits start celebrating Guy Fawkes day for real? Seriously, only in London could feeding your child be deemed neglecting your child. Why waste time arresting parents who beat their kids, when you can arrest parents for having children that are too fat?
Authorities are considering taking an 8-year-old boy who weighs 218 pounds into protective custody unless his mother improves his diet, officials said Monday.

[...]

"Child abuse is not just about hitting your children or sexually abusing them, it is also about neglect," the official was quoted as saying.

Dr. Colin Waine, the director of the National Obesity Forum in Nottingham, England, called Connor's lifestyle "extremely dangerous," adding he is at risk of developing diabetes in his early teens, and cardiovascular and nervous system problems in his 20s.

Uh, OK. Maybe they have hurt him somehow. But what about emotional and intellectual health? Shouldn't we take kids away from parents who teach them crazy things like there's a supernatural Santa Claus in the sky? Or racism? Socialism? Conservatism? Radical Islam? In other words, why do we care about what his parents are putting into his stomach, and not what they're putting into his mind? And is there really a difference from a "what's best for the child and society" perspective? Of course, he is one fat fucker though.
