Coke, Smoke, Ups, Downs

My first exposure to urban poetry was being in Manhattan at age 14 and hearing pushers recite, "coke, smoke, ups, downs." I was reminded of those fun days of the 70s and 80s when I heard the story of a Boston pizzeria that was just indicted for offering coke to customers at
West End Pizza, a shoe-box-sized pizzeria that authorities say doubled as a carry-out cocaine-sales operation just blocks from the TD Banknorth Garden. Amid the cheese, flour, and toppings behind the counter, authorities say, the employees stashed numerous tiny bags of cocaine for sale.
It reminds me of the 80s when one could order a quarter gram of coke at a New York bar with your drink, and for $25 more get a nice little sniff in a tin foil wrapper.
