DC Council Submits a Trans-fat Ban

I am getting exhausted by being a libertarian. The reason, sadly, is that our basic rights are being made illegal at an alarming click. To revisit Leo's Law, which posits that every year we become less free because legislatures enact more laws without taking other laws off the books, let's just look at the Maryland legislature, which enacted 105 new laws, including a smoking ban. So every year we suffer about 100 more laws and regulations. I don't think the Founding Fathers had that kind of country in mind.

But what is really pissing me off is Ward 3 council member Mary Cheh's bill to ban trans fats. Unfortunately, it already has four other council members co-signing the bill. In the Northwest Current [not available online] Cheh says, "we are not getting any thinner." Then the paper goes on to quote the pox of freedom called the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

Can we please educate the masses as to the difference of not liking something, or something being unhealthful, versus banning it and forcing government coercion?
