Gay Hate Crimes Bill a Loser

I am gay and do volunteer work for Human Rights Campaign but I am dead against the Hate Crimes Bill that gay rights groups like HRC have been pushing and the House just introduced. If you beat or kill someone that is a crime and it is punished through the judicial system. Why does it matter why someone did it? Should we allocate punishment based on motive? Should someone who killed his wife be less penalized than someone who killed a gay lover? No way, that is insane.

This bill is getting major negative feedback from the predictable sources. Why the gay rights movement didn't lead with something so much more important to gay people, the Employment Non Discrimination Act, which would give gays protection against getting fired for being gay, I have no idea.
