Scary Friday Links---Thursday Edition

Another day, another case of witness intimidation in Baltimore. Firebombing! Get in on it!

Another day, another taser death at the hands of the Baltimore PD. This time the victim was 50 y old Thomas Campbell. His crime? He was, "running amok." Also, check out this disgusting stat from the article:
Police say they have used Tasers 14 times this year, and Campbell is the third fatality.
Great odds. Unbelievable odds. Well, the good news is that if you are tasered in Baltimore City, you have a greater than 75% chance of living.

Is this for real?
People who even think about going for a drink face being banned from their town centre for up to two days under wideranging new police powers.

Potential trouble-makers can be asked to move on and stay away – even if they have not touched a drop of alcohol.

The banning orders – called 'directions to leave' – can last for 48 hours and any breach can be punished with a fine of up to £2,500.

Fingerprints and DNA samples will be taken.

Ministers insist the new powers are a vital weapon in the fight against drinkrelated violence.

The orders, under the 2006 Violent Crime Reduction Act, came into force yesterday and can be made against anyone over 16.

Police can act against someone for doing nothing more illegal than looking like they might cause alcoholrelated disorder, whether they have started drinking or not.

Those given directions to leave will be handed details on a form, have their photo taken and may even receive a map of the area from which they are banned.
Doesn't go far enough. Require GPS computer chips to be implanted in the neck of all those individuals subjects that are banned with a matching stun collar. They wander into an area that they shouldn't, and wham! Smoked with a friendly 50,000 watts. Could be a marketable invention in the coming future come to think of it...
